Jac. Jongert (1883-1942)
Graphic artist and designer Jac. Jongert lived and worked in Purmerend until 1917. Jongert was a pioneer in the applied arts for industry and crafts. He is considered to be one of the first to have developed a house style for companies: posters, advertisements, stationary, labels and the like. In Purmerend he designed the stained glass window in the town hall in 1912, wall paintings fot the workman's association Vooruit, book covers and illustrations and for the Oud beverage company, still based in Purmerend in those days, bottles, labels and posters. Jongert was on friendly terms with the Purmerend-born architect J.J.P. Oud, later an architect of international repute.
